Important Update on Costa Rica Entry Visa Regulation.

We are pleased to inform you about recent changes to Costa Rica's entry visa regulations as per Decree No. 44187 dated June 15, 2023. These amendments have a significant impact on the duration of stay for international visitors, specifically for countries falling under Group 1, which includes nations such as Germany, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, United States, Italy, France, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, and others.
Extended Stay Duration
Previously, the maximum non-extendable stay period for tourists in Costa Rica was 90 days. However, effective from September 8, 2023, Article 7 of Entry Visa Regulation No. 36626-G has been modified to allow a maximum stay of 180 calendar days from the date of entry for citizens of countries in Group 1. This change provides visitors with increased flexibility to enjoy the wonders of our beautiful country.
Key Considerations
There are some essential points to keep in mind:
Implementation Date: These modifications will come into effect starting September 8, 2023. Tourists who entered before this date will not be able to request an extension of their entry stamp. The visa stamping will be at the discretion of the immigration officer on duty at the time of the tourist's entry into the country.
